The Weyburn Beavers picked up their second win in a row Wednesday night, but they would need extra innings to come away with the victory in Regina over the Red Sox.
The Beavers found themselves up 7-1 heading into the 8th inning, but the Red Sox would rally to tie the game, scoring four runs in the eighth, and two more in the ninth to force the extra innings. A big outpouring of offence in the 10th inning would put Weyburn ahead, and they came away with a 12-8 victory.
The Beavers were led at the plate by Quinten Smith, who went 2-for-3, driving in a run and adding a double. The Beavers also had two RBI from Ryan Dauphinee, Ian Heck and Dallas Cummins, with Niko Kekatos also driving in a run.
Other extra-base hits for the Beavers came from Dauphinee, who had a double, and Ryan Muizelaar had his first triple of the season.
On the mound, starting pitcher Owen McConnell went four innings, striking out five while allowing one run on five hits. Tyler Pechetti would go three innings in relief, striking out two, and then Jordan Bauer came on in the eighth. He would have a rough outing, allowing four runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning. Ethan Webster would come out to finish the game, earning the win in the process.
The Beavers will be back in action Friday night as they host the Saskatoon Berries at Tom Laing Park.
