Unger, Warriors shutout Blades on Thursday night
The Moose Jaw Warriors put together one of their most complete efforts of the season to knock off the Eastern Conference’s top team.
Jackson Unger made 32 saves for the Warriors as they shutout the Saskatoon Blades, 4-0, on Thursday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
“Obviously Saskatoon is playing good hockey this year, but I like the fact that we took it to them right off the bat,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said. “We were getting pucks in behind them, we were on the forecheck and I thought a lot of guys probably had their best game in a Warrior uniform.”
Twins enjoying being inducted into Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame together
For the first time in the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame's history, twins will be honoured at the induction ceremony.
Matthew and Lindsey Dahl will be inducted together in 2025, and Lindsey says that it's something he wasn't prepared for.
"I was certainly surprised and excited, and quite honoured to receive the news about being inducted."
He adds that being inducted together with his brother Matt is something that he doesn't take for granted.
Blue Bombers re-sign veteran kicker Sergio Castillo for 2025 season
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have secured a key piece of their roster, announcing the re-signing of veteran kicker Sergio Castillo to a one-year contract.
Castillo, 34, has been the Blue Bombers' placekicker since 2023, marking his third stint with the team. He began his CFL career with Winnipeg in 2015, returned via trade in 2021, and rejoined the team in 2023 after a season with Edmonton.
Warriors square off with Blades tonight
For the first time since Game 6 of last year’s Eastern Conference Championship, the Moose Jaw Warriors and Saskatoon Blades will lock horns at the Hangar in downtown Moose Jaw on Thursday night.
The Warriors are expecting a stiff test when they square off with their East Division rivals.
“We’ve just got to play to our structure, play to our game and if everyone’s on board, we’ll be successful,” Warriors defenceman Connor Schmidt said.
57s business model pushed to the limit
Can the current model continue for the Swift Current 57s?
Longtime 57s volunteer and now past president Brad Woods is expressing concern the growth of the WCBL in terms of schedule and required offerings has pushed them beyond their budgetary limits.
"They're now operating on a 56-game schedule," Wood said. "When you're on an organization that relies 100% on volunteers to deliver that 56-game schedule it's tough because it's a full time commitment through the months of say April through to the end of September.
Gallery: Okotoks Oilers first two months into the season at a glance
The Okotoks Oilers started their first full season in the BCHL on September 20 at Viking Rentals Centre against a familiar foe, the Brooks Bandits.
With only six players returning to the roster, turnover was expected. Not only have the Oilers brought in a bunch of new faces, but they have also faced off with eight teams they had never played before.
Mid-season check up: Bruins continue to be resilient, even if they're on a slump
"I look at this group as a real positive group, you know. Like, it could be easy to get down and think, 'Oh boy, there we go! This is just not our year.' but that hasn't been my indication at all, just being around this group every day."
Resiliency is key to any hockey team, especially when they're experiencing a slump like what the Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins are facing right now. Play-by-play host and marketing director, Marty Martinson, spends the majority of his day with the team, and he sees the effort they are contributing.
