Saskatchewan has recently been seeing a significant drop in oil and gas prices and could continue to.
According to GasBuddy, this is due to lower demand for gasoline and a recent decision made by OPEC.
The current Saskatchewan average is around $1.54 per litre while the national average is sitting around $1.60 per litre and wholesale costs have seen a dramatic drop.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, highlights that gas prices are around five cents lower than they were at this time last year.
"With oil prices plummeting lately in the last couple of days, I do expect that we should see more gas stations potentially lowering prices by as much as five - 10 cents a litre here over the next couple of weeks," said De Haan.
He noted that OPEC, the international organization that has monitored petroleum exportation since 1960, made a change to its strategy last weekend.
This included extending production cuts and considering a timeline for when they plan to gradually raise production cuts.
"Last year we did see prices modestly declining going into Canada Day," De Haan added. "We're just a little bit below where we were and all in all, I continue to expect this summer to track very closely to what we saw last year."
