The grassfire in Springbank has been contained and extinguished as of 8:00 p.m.
The fire's location on a forested hillside made ground efforts challenging, but air support was successfully used to prevent the spread.
Rocky View County (RVC) officials say fire crews will stay on site throughout the evening to monitor for hot spots.
"Thank you to the Springbank community for your cooperation," the county states in its most recent update. "It played a crucial role in our safe and effective response to this situation."
They also extended appreciation to other fire crews who assisted in extinguishing the fire. Assisting were Alberta Forest Protection Services and fire departments from Springbank, Bearspaw, Elbow Valley, Cochrane, Calgary, and Redwood Meadows. Cochrane RCMP also responded to the scene.
At 6:20 p.m., affected residents had been asked to evacuate to Springbank Park for All Seasons. As they continue to fight the blaze, they repeated the offer to go to the park at 7:25 p.m., where accommodations and other supports for families and pets were made available.
