“A little bit of everything,” said Weyburn Beavers head coach Cam Williams about what went well in Tuesday night’s game against the Medicine Hat Mavericks. The Beavers racked up 14 hits, while the pitching staff struck out eight as they won 11-3 over the number two team in the East Division at Tom Laing Park.

“First off, Owen McConnell had a head of a start,” Williams continued. “We had good situational hitting, and good team at-bats and good defence too. Then, Angelo Fragozo and Joe Hart out of the bullpen locked it down.”

At the plate, Dallas Cummins had a three-hit night and drove in two runs. Ryan Dauphinee went 3-for-5 at the dish, including a double, driving in a pair of runs as well. Niko Kekatos also had a three-hit night, with a double, and drove in a run.

The hero from Saturday’s game against the Saskatoon Berries, Halen Otte, continued his hot play with a pair of hits and an RBI, giving him six in just two games.

“I’m just seeing it a little bit better,” Otte said of what is going well at the plate for him right now. “Had a little bit of a break in between school ball and summer ball, so just had to get the gears going again.”

Other RBIs for the Beavers in the win came from Easton Mould, Ryan Muizelaar, and Quentin Smith.

On the mound, McConnell got the win as he went six innings, allowing just two runs – one earned – while striking out three. Fragozo pitched two innings in relief, allowing no hits and striking out four. Hart finished the game off, striking out one and allowing one run.

The Beavers will now get set for the Regina Red Sox, who come to Tom Laing Park Wednesday night.

“They beat us pretty good here last week, and we don’t forget that stuff,” Williams said. “I think we’ll be ready to go, and everyone’s kind of upset about last week, so it should be a good game.”

The first pitch in the game at Tom Laing Park is at 7:05 p.m.
