Donald Herbert Korte
September 21, 1938 – June 14, 2024

The death of Donald “Don” Herbert Korte of Saskatoon, SK, (and formerly of Humboldt, SK), occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, on Friday, June 14, 2024.  He was 85 years of age.  Don was born on September 21, 1938, to Ben and Hilda (nee Muyres) Korte at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Humboldt, and grew up on the family farm in the Muenster district with two brothers and two sisters.  He attended Golden Rule School in the area.  Following his education, Don went to work for the Department of Natural Resources.  He also operated a courier service for Credit Union Central for seven years, was employed at Ed’s Radiator and Tire for 17 years, and managed the radiator department at Cash Motors for seven years.  Beginning in 1981, he worked for the City of Humboldt until retiring on December 31, 2000.  Over the years, Don enjoyed a variety of pastimes, which included reading, guitar playing, watching the music channel on television, camping, and fishing. He also loved traveling and made many trips to Vancouver Island to visit family, northern Ontario, various points in the United States, including Las Vegas, and going on casino trips.

Don is survived by one son, Russ (Linda) Korte; stepdaughters:  Michelle Malone, Shonna Dalzell, and LaFern Franchoeur; grandchildren: Justin Korte, and Rachelle (Shane Covey) Korte; great-grandchildren: Aleah Covey, Kaysen Covey, Harley Korte, and Kinley Korte; sisters-in-law, Karen Korte and Rosella Hamel.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie Ann (nee Vogelsang) Korte; second wife, Marilyn (nee Rath) Korte; two sons:  Rodney Korte and David Korte; parents, Ben and Hilda (nee Muyres) Korte; parents-in-law, Joe and Kathy Vogelsang, and August and Paula (nee Menz) Rath; two brothers:  Ernest Korte and Allan Korte; two sisters, Doreen Kleefeld and Leonz Kleefeld; and by two brothers-in-law, John Kleefeld and Fred Kleefeld.

The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Paul Oshin. Others taking part were: Justin Korte, crossbearer; Justin Korte and Aleah Covey, scripture readers; Rachelle Korte, Harley Korte, Kaysen Covey and Kinley Korte, intentions; and Russ Korte, urnbearer. Music ministry was provided by director Loretta Schugmann, Carol Esler, pianist, and members of the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir.  Honorary pallbearers were Shane Covey, Myles Korte and Karen Korte.  Interment followed at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Muenster, SK.  Memorial donations may be directed to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (P.O.
