Jade air purifiers and palliative beds will provide extra comfort to the hospital community at the Boundary Trails Health Centre thanks to a $45,000 grant from the Morden Community Thrift Shop.
Shannon Samatte-Folkett, who is the Executive Director of the Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation, says that the foundation applies for a grant from the Morden Community Thrift Shop every year.
“The air purifiers improve the air quality in our wards, ensuring healthier environment for our patients and staff. These air purifiers align perfectly with our mission to go above and beyond in providing care that exceeds basic healthcare requirements.”
The palliative care beds purchased with the grant also offer something extra.
“[These beds] are little bit different, and they are crucial for providing enhanced comfort and support to our patients in the most critical moments, ensuring they receive the dignity and the care they deserve,” says Samatte-Folkett. “Palliative care is a vital service at Boundary Trails Health Center. It focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and the stress of serious illness, and the right equipment can make a significant difference in the quality of life for these patients.”
Without the grant, purchasing the hospital equipment may not have been possible.
“This equipment does not fit into the standard budget from the government, so this represents the extras that truly make a difference, and supporting these projects is something we are very passionate about.”
Samatte-Folkett is grateful for the support that funded the new hospital additions.
“I say this probably year after year, but [the Morden Community Thrift Shop is] incredible, and the unwavering support that we get from them through this community volunteer group is astonishing," says Samatte-Folkett. “They have a remarkable reputation for giving back to the community and their efforts make a real difference in the lives of . . . the patients and [their] families.”
