Darrell Leslie Sawicki
May 16, 1967 – June 22, 2024

Darrell Leslie Sawicki passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 57 years of age. He was born on May 16, 1967, to Roman and Betty Sawicki in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. He spent his early childhood on the family farm south of Humboldt, until 1974 when the family moved into town. Darrell attended both St. Augustine School and St. Dominic School for his elementary education before he graduated from Humboldt Collegiate Institute in 1986. After high school, he embarked on a career in the carpentry trade where he worked for five years before starting his longtime career at South 20 Dodge Chrysler and RV Centre. He dedicated over 30 years to the parts department as a knowledgeable and well-respected parts advisor. Darrell was a hard-working man who also knew how to enjoy life. He had a deep love for the outdoors, finding joy in hunting, fishing, and camping. Some of his most cherished memories were the trips to Fort Smith to visit friends with countless hunting and fishing stories shared around the campfire. Darrell was an avid Kaiser player and took great pleasure in spending time with his family, always showing a keen interest in his nieces and nephew’s activities. He was always willing to help out family and friends, whether it was errands for his parents, projects for his brothers or shoveling snow for the neighbors. Darrell was also a passionate sports fan, faithfully following the Toronto Blue Jays, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Whether watching the Roughriders from his recliner or cheering them on in the stadium, his enthusiasm was the same. His legacy of love for family and friends, passion of the outdoors and dedication to his work will forever be remembered and cherished by those who knew him. Darrell will be lovingly remembered by: his parents, Roman and Betty Sawicki; his three brothers and their families: Lyle (Gwen), and family: Kelsey (Tristan) Kendel; Brad (Lisa), and family: Cole (Kellie), Jessica (Garret Whitford); Trevor (Marla), and daughters Ella and Ava. He was predeceased by his: paternal grandparents, Rose and Joseph Sawicki; maternal grandparents Norman and Lucille Howard; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral Mass was held at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, SK, on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Colin Roy. Others taking part were: Brad Sawicki, cross bearer; Kelsey Kendel & Ava Sawicki, scripture readers; Ella Sawicki & Trevor Sawicki, intentions; Cole Sawicki & Tristan Kendel, gift bearers; Carol Sawicki & Audrey Howard, memorial table attendants; Lyle Sawicki, Trevor Sawicki and Brad Sawicki, eulogists; Lyle Sawicki, urn bearer; and “All those who shared in Darrell’s life”, honorary pallbearers. Music ministry was provided by St. Augustine Funeral Choir, directed by Loretta Schugmann. Interment took place at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery, followed by a memorial luncheon at St. Augustine Parish Hall.
