The City of Estevan has given another update on its progress with the 4th Street Downtown Revitalization Project, dated June 19.
The update is as follows:
General:
ASL Paving has been engaged for the work, with Turnbull Excavating acting as their underground utilities subcontractor. Work started at the intersection of 4th Ave and 11th Street and is progressing to the West. Underground sewer, storm, and water mains, and the services to buildings is the main scope currently.
Access / Traffic Accommodation:
Sidewalks remain open with the exception of where service connections are needed to interrupt the access. Fencing is installed and detours are in place. Back alleys are currently operating as 2 way, and functioning, but may be transitioned to 1 way later in the project if needed. The intersection of 4th Street and 12th Avenue is no longer accessible in order to accommodate progress.
Surfacing:
Roadway asphalt has been removed where work has commenced on the 1100 Block of 4th. Aggregates have been salvaged where possible. Asphalt in the intersection of 12th Avenue and 4th Street has been removed.
Sanitary Sewer:
Mains and services have been replaced with new lines from the intersection of 4th and 11th now past the 12th Avenue and 4th Street intersection.
Storm Sewers:
Mains have been replaced with new lines from the intersection of 4th and 11th now past the 12th Avenue and 4th Street intersection. Contaminated soil removal is complete, with the exception of under the existing storm line. The remainder will be removed when the line comes out.
Water:
Temporary water services to buildings have been installed, chlorinated, tested, and confirmed working on the 1100th and 1200th Block of 4th. New isolation valves are installed and are functioning. Mains have been installed in the intersection of 4th and 11th, with the connection to the south and north completed.
Electrical:
Removals of existing light poles on the 1100 Block of 4th has been completed.
Landscaping & Furnishings:
No work is currently underway.
Environmental Biology:
Trees were cleared in accordance with the required window for birds. No further issues have arisen.
Environmental contaminated sites:
Contamination was discovered as part of another project in the vicinity of this project at the intersection of 11th and 4th, and the contamination cleanup is being handled as a separate project.
