The Estevan Public Youth Centre (EPYC) is buzzing with excitement as it rolls out a series of engaging summer activities for local youth. Merissa Scarlett, the executive director of EPYC, shared details about the upcoming events and the centre's recent successes.

This week, EPYC will host the EPYC Olympics, featuring daily activities from Wednesday to Saturday. “We’re doing things like test your NERF gun skills, charades, and rock, paper, scissors where you become the rock, paper, or scissors,” Scarlett said. “The winners will get some gift cards to local places, and we’re hoping it’ll drive more youth attendance.”

Scarlett also highlighted the centre’s recent achievements. “In May and June, we had about 200 visits and 65 new youth walk through the doors. They’re excited and bringing their friends,” she noted. Upcoming events at EPYC include a build-your-own-burger BBQ night on July 26 and various outdoor activities in August, culminating in a family event to wrap up the summer.

Today, EPYC is the beneficiary of the first Taste of Summer Charity BBQ, hosted by Golden West Radio at Mid-City Plumbing and Heating from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For $5, attendees can enjoy a hotdog, a drink and cookies, with proceeds supporting the youth centre. For more information on the BBQ series, visit Taste of Summer.

EPYC is also hiring drop-in supervisors to help keep the centre open more frequently. Those interested can find more details on the Estevan Public Youth Centre's Facebook page.
