Another busy weekend of activities and events is approaching, and Project Patio is getting excited.
The Carman Country Fair is kicking off on Thursday and runs until Saturday. A member of the board of directors for the fair, Elaine Owen, says there are many things to check out at the fair including games, rides, great food, music, various vendors, and much more. She highlights what it means to keep the Carman tradition going for 144 years.
“It's essential to keep the fair running for so long. It is affordable for families so all kids can experience the fun activities and that's been our goal too. The fair would not be possible if not for our volunteers and the board of directors, it is great for people to come down and support Carman’s fair.”
Owen adds that they have new activities involving agricultural education for kids and that it is important for kids to understand agriculture. It will be a fun weekend for Carman and the surrounding areas.
As we move into Saturday, multiple events are happening, but a great one to check out is the Holiday Avenue Project Garden Tour. Co-chair of the event, Byrna McDermid says that the event is almost sold out, however there are a few tickets still left. There are 8 local gardens this year, she notes they are all beautiful spaces, and they are also looking forward to their new activities this year.
“There are new additions this year, which are the yard sale, the rainbow auction, and a draw raffle at the Island Park location. We're getting ready for it and looking forward to seeing everyone.”
She adds that the weather is supposed to be perfect for the event and it wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers.
Another big event on Saturday is the Fountain Tire fundraiser. There will be a barbeque starting at 11:00 that morning, a bake table, a silent auction, and live music. Volunteer for the event, Gladys Green notes how important the fundraiser is to support.
“It means everything to be able to give the funds to MS Canada, many younger people are being diagnosed with the disease so it’s important to help to find cures and ways to prevent the disease. I hope everyone can come out to the event.”
The barbeque will be outside, but there will be plenty of room inside for the silent auction, bake table, as well as tables and chairs to enjoy the food.
Project Patio will be at the Farmer’s Appreciation Lunch on Thursday, the Carman Fair on Friday, and then the Holiday Avenue Project Garden Tour and Fountain Tire fundraiser on Saturday. With such a busy weekend, we hope to see you at the events.
