The Crossfield Fire Department is creating a calendar to sell with all the funds raised being donated to the Crossfield and Madden Food Bank.

Beth Gabriel, a firefighter for the Crossfield Fire Department talked about how this idea came about.

"I have been working with the Crossfield and Madden Food Bank for a few years now,  I've just seen the need for food explode and I thought this would be a fun way that we'd be able to help them out and at the same time do some team building as a Fire Department."

During Christmas, the Fire Department helps collect food to create Christmas hampers for those in need in the area and then hands them out.

"It was shocking to us this year to find out that 25 per cent of Airdrie Food Bank users were actually from Crossfield and the surrounding area."

Inspirations to make a calendar were from the Calgary Fire Department when they used to make one.

"It just was so much fun when I met some of those firefighters that were a part of the calendar and some of the images, aside from the hot stuff part were so neat and so interesting."

When asked about what people can expect in the calendar, Gabriel explained people can expect the reality of the work they do but also the fun side of firefighters.

"If all goes well, we're looking to raise almost $10,000 that we'll be able to donate to the hampers in the food bank programs."

Gabriel hopes to have the calendars ready to go by September. She hopes that local businesses will be able to help sell them while they also plan to attend all kinds of markets.

She wanted to thank everybody who has helped sponsor the making of the calendars so far, if anybody else would like to sponsor, please send her an email at bethg@crossfieldalberta.com.
