The U13 Softball Provincial weekend is in full swing at the Pleasantdale Diamonds, promising exciting games and community spirit.

The Estevan Elites kicked off the tournament with an impressive victory, winning their first game against the SE Supernovas with a score of 11-9. Estevan Minor Softball board member Rebecca Foord praised the team’s performance, highlighting the thrilling back-and-forth nature of the match.

The tournament's opening ceremony is scheduled for 6 P.M. tonight, featuring the introduction of all 21 competing teams. The ceremony will include speeches from dignitaries, a special address by the President of Softball Saskatchewan, and a ceremonial first pitch.

To combat the weekend heat, there will be tents for shade and a canteen offering cold beverages. Foord emphasized the importance of staying cool and hydrated, noting that keeping players and attendees safe from heat stroke is a top priority.

“It’s going to be some great softball all weekend,” Foord added. “There’s really nothing like watching hundreds of young girls play together. Given the statistics on girls in sports, it’s amazing to have a weekend like this and see the community come together. A huge thank you to all our volunteers and organizers because we couldn’t do this without their support.”

For those attending, designated parking is located on the west side of the diamonds. Foord reminded attendees to be mindful of residential areas and avoid blocking driveways if parking on the street.
