The season wrapped up for the Borderline Ladies’ Fastball League on the weekend, as the top four teams met in Odessa for their year-end tournament. The action would go throughout the night on Friday, and the day on Saturday, culminating in a win for the Odessa Country Steelers.

The tournament opened on Friday as the two Weyburn-based teams, the White Lightning and the Shehawks, played in the first round. The White Lightning had finished the regular season as the top seed in the tournament, while the Shehawks were fourth. The higher seed would get the win, and the White Lightning advanced to the semi-finals.

In the other opening-round game, the Ceylon Devils played the host Odessa Country Steelers. Odessa would pick up the win, advancing to take on the White Lightning, while the Devils were destined for a match-up with the Shehawks, the winners moving on to face the loser of the game between the White Lightning and Odessa.

The White Lightning would win their second-round game, punching their ticket to the finals, while Odessa would have to play the winner of the game between the Shehawks and Ceylon.

Ceylon would take the game against the Shehawks, handing the Weyburn team their second loss of the tournament, and sending them home early. The Devils would then have to play the Country Steelers for a second time, this time with a berth in the finals on the line.

Odessa would win the game, edging past Ceylon 11-10, setting up a rematch in the finals against the White Lightning. The Country Steelers, though, had the hometown advantage and came out swinging in their second game of the day against the White Lightning. They would put up some big numbers and went on to a 11-1 victory.

After the tournament, the top player awards were handed out. Taylor Marcotte of the White Lightning was named the top pitcher in the tournament, while the MVP for the 2024 Borderline Ladies’ Fastball League tournament was Odessa’s Amber Lockert.
