Monday morning started with cracks of thunder, flashes of lightning and gusty winds as thunderstorms move through the area.
“A cold front moving through produced a line of north-south thunderstorms which moved across Southern Manitoba bringing quick shots of rainfall during the overnight and morning hours,” explained CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner. “This cold front will officially bring an end to the warm and humid conditions we’ve seen over the past week or so, with slightly below average temperatures to start the week, with a warming trend expected heading into the weekend.”

Cooler conditions are in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday, according to Sumner, with one more chance for showers on Tuesday as another weak area of low pressure moves through.
“After that, high pressure will build behind that Tuesday disturbance,” he said. “That means a return to lots of sunshine by Wednesday. Northerly winds, as well as the jet stream being pushed to the south, will be part of the mix, and that will allow a cooler air-mass to settle over the area Tuesday.”
Highs Monday will range between 22 and 24 degrees, but Tuesday will see highs only in the 19 to 21 range.
“High pressure is expected to be the driving weather-maker from Wednesday onward, with limited chances of showers and thunderstorms and lots of sunshine,” he added. “Winds will turn southerly by Thursday, and a warmer air-mass will start edging northward, setting up a weekend looking likely to include a return to hot and humid weather. At this point, the forecast models are indicating daytime highs Friday through Sunday in the upper twenties to low thirties, with Humidex values once again pushing into the mid 30s.”
