The southeast has seen a few severe weather systems roll through over the last couple of months, with funnel clouds and hail setting residents on edge.

Another system that came through on Sunday missed Estevan, but hit areas to the north and south, splitting over the city.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Natalie Hasell takes a look at the system that brought hail and gusting winds to the area.

"Looking at our forecasts, we were certainly expecting severe thunderstorms through a lot of southern Saskatchewan, especially by the US border and into southwestern Manitoba as well, and the main threats expected were strong winds and large hail."

The forecast included a supercell system, which can bring a large amount of thunder over a single system.

"It does look like we got some supercell activity through the area, so those are the largest thunderstorms that are defined by a tilt-rotating updraft and the tilt is what allows them to grow that large. The fact that the updraft is already rotating means that they are far more prone to tornado genesis than some of the other thunderstorms."

Only one funnel cloud was reported in the southeast with that happening further north of the expected area.

"Looking at some reports that we got, possible funnel towards Yorkton actually is a little bit further north than I think we were originally. We did have, as I was mentioning, the supercells and clear signs of rotation on radar, but we haven't found any reports of actual funnel clouds or tornadoes, other than the one in Yorkton."

"Doesn't mean they didn't happen, I just don't have reports. Although I think by now we would know if a tornado had actually occurred. So looking at that, it was a pretty active day yesterday."

In addition, a couple of southeast communities saw some larger hail along with heavy winds.

"Quarter-sized hail in Carievale, which is also where we had the tornado warning at some point, and ping pong ball-sized hail by Carnduff."

Hasell says to expect some showers over the week as temperatures warm up.
