Lester “Les” Case, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, passed suddenly on July 12, 2024.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Sandra, Shelley (Larry), Brian (Patti); six grandchildren Amanda (Kevin), Scott (Kimberly), Cameron (Roxanne), Kelsey (Matt), Kayla (Brian), Kyle (Blessing); 14 great-grandchildren, Simon, Sophie, Audrey, Claire, Everett, Reese, Gavin, Madelyn, Hailey, Dean, Grant, Felix, Bridget, Kendrick; brother Bill (Lesia), sister Linda, sister Cheryl (Garry); along with several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley; daughter Catherine; parents Stan and Ruth Case; brother Frank and his wife Carol; brother-in-law Michael Munro; in-laws Hector and Agnes Wishart and sister-in-law Isabelle.
Les was born, raised and farmed in the Salem district his entire life. He received a 25-year award from the Manitoba Sugar Industry in 1982. He loved animals and always had a horse, some he raised and trained himself. He was a member of the Portage Horse Club and competed in many horse shows including the Portage Ex. He proudly raised purebred Charolais, Angus and border collies. An avid outdoor enthusiast, he loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and sports. He played liniment league into his 70’s, became an active member and instructor at the Portage Judo Club after he turned 40, receiving his black belt in 1990.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 11:00 am at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. Family interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and to register and view click below.
