In a release sent out yesterday, Estevan Fire Rescue Chief Rick Davies talked about the provincial fire ban which came into effect last week.

The ban that came into effect includes open fires, controlled burns, and fireworks as well as all land within 4.5 km of provincial forest boundaries.

The ban has yet to come down, with officials specifying that environmental conditions would need to improve, such as a continued lowering of the temperature or more moisture coming into the province.

In his release, Davies noted that this only applies to crown-owned land, saying that the city of Estevan does not currently have an active fire ban on.

Also, Davies says that EFR has not had any discussion or confirmation that there are currently any active fire bans in the surrounding RMs.

Davies also commented on a couple of calls they received over the week.

On both July 8th and 12th, Estevan Fire Rescue received calls about a carbon monoxide alarm in the city. The call on the 8th was at 6 a.m. in the north part of the city, while the 12th had a call at 8:00 a.m. in the east part of the city.

In both incidents, crews responded and found moderate levels of CO2 in the buildings.

On the 8th, that source came from vehicle exhaust, while on the 12th, the gas was a result of vehicle maintenance being performed.

In both cases, no injuries or illnesses were reported from the scene.
