A $200,000 donation is going to the MRI project at St. Joseph's Hospital, which will help out one southeast RM who is making the donation.
The RM of Souris Valley announced they would make the donation which will come in the form of $100,000 this year and $100,000 next year.
Reeve Glenn Walkeden says that the community wanted to see some support for the project.
"Initially we had considered doing a $50,000 donation to get everything rolling, but with the amount of questions and concerns our taxpayers had with trying to make sure that this is a definitely go-ahead, we decided for our donation to go from 50 to $100,000 this year and $100,000 next year to make sure that we can do what we can to help make sure that this goes ahead."
The idea of having an MRI machine in Estevan is popular with these southeast communities following a $2 million dollar donation from Elaine Walkom in Estevan.
"This is probably the most concern we've ever had from our taxpayers or ratepayers that they want to make sure that this can happen with an initial donation, that of the $2,000,000. Just with the amount of time and effort it takes to get to Regina or Saskatoon to get an MRI done if we can get it done in our own backyard and save all that traveling and provide a better service for everybody around us, young and old, that means a great deal to our people."
Walkeden says his chat with St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation Executive Director Lori Gervais showed the project has a lot of promise.
"We had a great conversation with her and explained where we're coming from. We're one of the few RMs to get back to her and get this thing going. So she was happy to get that started and we had (Estevan MLA) Lori Carr also come in and had some concerns and we spoke with her and yeah, everything sounds like it's a definite go ahead, we're hoping."
Walkeden thanked the supporters from the RM who helped to make a donation like this possible.
"We're just happy to be able to provide what we can from our area to make sure that this goes ahead. We couldn't do it without the taxpayers paying their bills and everything else going ahead and wanting to make sure that our community is one that's involved in this."
