Estevan Police Services responded to several notable incidents over the weekend, including a cyclist who fell and rode away, a bank account theft, and two reports of suspected impaired drivers. EPS continues to investigate and urges the public to stay vigilant.
EPS responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision in which a cyclist was struck by a vehicle. Police investigated and identified the vehicle and driver but were unable to locate the cyclist as he rode away. Through investigation, it was determined that it wasn’t a collision. The cyclist appeared to have lost their balance and fell off their bike. EPS is still hoping to speak to the cyclist and asks that he call the police.
Police received a complaint of theft of money from the complainant’s bank account. The complainant was contacted by an unknown person and downloaded an app to his phone, which gave the person access to his bank accounts. The matter remains under investigation. EPS reminds the public to use caution when giving others access to their electronic devices.
EPS responded to a report of a motor vehicle cutting off a group of cyclists. The driver was located and cautioned about their actions. Police would like to remind the public that cyclists are required to follow traffic laws the same as any other vehicle. Motor vehicles are required to yield to cyclists as they would to other vehicles on the street.
On Monday, police received two separate reports of possible impaired drivers. The first was headed towards Estevan from Bienfait. The vehicle was located, and a traffic stop was conducted. The driver was found to be sober. Later that day, the second driver was located, a roadside test was completed, and that driver was also found to be sober.
