The Weyburn Police Service dealt with a pair of calls last Tuesday, both of which involved alcohol.

The first call was in the early morning hours and came from the staff at a local hotel. A group of men staying at the hotel became involved in a physical altercation. Officers responded to the scene and spoke with the men that they believed were involved.

“There was a bit of confusion, as they were intoxicated,” explained Deputy Police Chief Brent VanDeSype. “They were all known to each other, had a bit of a disagreement. A couple of the makes were treated for minor injuries to their hands, scrapes and scuffs, things like that.”

The men were taken to cells, where they stayed the night and were then released when sober. No charges were laid in the incident.

The second incident happened later in the day.

A call came into the WPS from a resident who reported their garage had been entered while they were away, and the alcohol that was in the fridge in their garage had been stolen. The resident also told police they believed he wasn’t the only person to experience something like that.

The situation is still under investigation, and the WPS ask anyone who has experienced a theft to contact the police.

In all, the WPS responded to 69 calls for service last week, resulting in 17 charges. Seven of the charges were under the Criminal Code, with nine under the Traffic Safety Act, and one under the Vehicle Equipment Regulations.
