Golden West’s second Taste of Summer BBQ fundraiser was a sizzling success, with proceeds benefiting the Estevan Legion.
This week’s BBQ took place at Wood Country Building Supplies, with Walmart as the food sponsor and Smart Power Systems lending the grill to get the food hot and ready.
Frosty Forrest of the Estevan Legion expressed his happiness with the turnout. $778.75 was raised at the BBQ. Although no specific plans have been made for the funds yet, Forrest said it would be put to good use.
“We make donations throughout the community and to our veteran's program, and so it all helps out."
The upcoming weekend promises to be busy for the Legion as they host their annual steak dinner on Saturday, July 20th. He noted that tickets are still available. “If people would call the office and say they are going, just so we can get a number of how many people are coming.”
“We’re just trying to keep going and seeing where we can help and where we are going to be of use to our community, and like I say, veterans everywhere are our primary concern.”
Additionally, the Legion will be attending the Baseball Provincials this weekend, where they will have truck raffle tickets available.
“We encourage everybody to come out and watch some of the good baseball and pick up your truck raffle ticket while you’re there,” said Forrest.
The next Taste of Summer BBQ is scheduled for next Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Murray GM in support of the Estevan Lions Club.
