Categories

At 12:56 Red Deer Emergency Services lifted the evacuation order in both Burnt Lake and Queens Industrial Parks. The situation is mitigated. There is no longer a risk to the public and businesses can resume.

Local roads will start to re-open while emergency crews clear up the area.

According to Blackfalds RCMP, they are still on scene at the chemical fire on Burnt Park Way. The fire has now been contained, however, crews are still on scene conducting cleanup.

At this time, RCMP have contained the area, including Burnt Lake Trail from Poplar Ridge to Burnt Basin Street, including Burnt Lake Crescent. As well, a section of Burnt Park Way from Burnt Lake Trail to Burnt Ridge Road is also closed.

Early this morning, Thursday, July 18th, Red Deer Emergency Services assisted Red Deer County to respond to an industrial chemical fire in the Burnt Lake Industrial Park.

Blackfalds RCMP were also on scene and sent out a message around 1:30 am, asking the public to avoid the area.

Due to the potentially hazardous materials involved, the Burnt Lake Industrial Park area was evacuated from Poplar Ridge Road to Burnt Bluff Street.

While not mandatory, businesses in the Queens Industrial Park are encouraged to evacuate until further notice. Those that choose to remain in the area are instructed to turn off all ventilation systems, close all windows and doors, and remain inside.

RDES is monitoring the situation and will provide updates, however at this time nearby residential areas and QEII traffic are not affected.
