High Riverites will have plenty of refreshments to cool down with this Saturday.

Lemonade Day is returning to town, with local kids trying their hands at entrepreneurship by setting up their own lemonade stands throughout town.

The event is held across North America annually, though this is only High River's second year.

Last year, they partnered with the Calgary version of the program to bring it to town.

High River's Special Events Coordinator, Heather Ross, says it was a big hit.

"We had a really successful celebration, we had over 10 stands set up in High River throughout the community for the day. I'm not going to lie, I drank a lot of lemonade. We were really excited to be able to bring it back again."

It's free to sign up, but there are some costs to consider in terms of supplies, which actually tie into the event.

"The only cost consideration would be purchasing the ingredients to make the lemonade and any supplies they would need to make the stand itself. Part of the program is actually teaching the kids how to set up those expenses. So when you're going through the business plan it'll actually say 'What does it cost you to make your lemonade? And if you're building your lemonade stand, how much did the materials cost? What do you need to sell your lemonade for to be able to make money?' I even learned a few things myself," says Ross.

Many of the stands are set up at "sweet spots," which are local businesses that have volunteered to allow stands to set up shop for the day.

Ross says it's another element of the program that ties into the theme.

"It does actually teach the children in the program how to present their business to another business owner to be able to see if they can set up outside their location."

There will also be prizes and awards presented, including a Youth Entrepreneur of the Year award.

Anyone interested can sign up on the Lemonade Day Calgary website.
