It isn’t every day that a porcupine is seen within the city limits, let alone downtown. However, one was seen in a tree along Souris Avenue in downtown Weyburn shortly before 11:00 a.m.

Porcupines are known to live in the southeast but rarely venture into a city. The one seen this morning not only made its way into the city but proceeded to climb a tree outside of a business. The animal, which looked to be seeking some shade from the sun while also staying away from the traffic of the city, was well outside of reach of a person on the ground.

The City of Weyburn issued an alert through the Voyent system to advise people to keep away from the area. Despite the alert, a few onlookers did go to see the animal.

Pest control was notified and went out to the scene to handle the situation.
