The Town of Diamond Valley has announced the resignation of one of its councillors.

Veronica Kloiber submitted her letter of resignation, effective July 18, to CAO Adam Davey.

She cited a new professional pursuit for her decision to step down and as she'll be moving out of town, she's ineligible to hold office.

Kloiber was first elected to Black Diamond Council in 2017 and was re-elected twice, first for another term in Black Diamond, then again one year later for a seat on Diamond Valley Council post-amalgamation.

"Unfortunately, the timing isn’t ideal for the people of Diamond Valley, but I have to do right by my family first. A move to a new community is what is needed," said Kloiber.

"It has been an honour to serve as an elected official for the residents of Black Diamond and Diamond Valley. I have learned so much in my time on Council and the lessons and friendships I’ve made will not soon be forgotten. You are in good hands; your Council wants what is best for this community, and the administrative team is talented and dedicated. I wish you all the best and thank you for voting for me not once, but three times."

Mayor Barry Crane extended thanks to Kloiber on behalf of Council and staff.

"Her fresh perspective and commitment to excellence have been invaluable to our work as a Council. It has been a sincere privilege to work with Councillor Kloiber. We wish her every success as she embarks on the next chapter of her career and personal pursuits."

Kloiber's resignation falls within 18 months of the next municipal election (scheduled for October 2025), a by-election won't be needed to fill the vacancy under the rules of the Municipal Government Act.
