The Moosmin RCMP along with the Saskatchewan RCMP Livestock Investigator tracked down and caught a cattle thief after some suspicious sales.

On June 28, a Saskatchewan RCMP Livestock Investigator received a report from Livestock Services of Saskatchewan (LSS) about a potential suspicious livestock transaction. The Moosomin RCMP began investigating with the assistance of the Saskatchewan RCMP Livestock Investigator.

An investigation determined that 14 calves had been stolen from a farm in the RM of Silverwood over the course of three different incidents. Further investigation determined an adult male stole the calves and attempted to sell them. Seven calves have since been recovered and returned to the farm.

As a result of continued investigation, on July 12 an adult male was arrested at a residence near Whitewood, west of Moosomin.

34-year-old Ryan Bennett from the Whitewood area is charged with:

  • three counts of theft of cattle over $5,000.
  • three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
  • three counts of trafficking property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Ryan Bennett is scheduled to appear in court in Moosomin on August 20, 2024.
