Earlier this month SGI announced that more than $1.3 million was awarded to a variety of traffic safety in nearly 50 communities across the province. Redvers was awarded $28,280 toward radar speed signs being installed throughout the community.
Jena Cowan, assistant chief administrative officer with the town of Redvers said that they have had good fortune when it comes to SGI grants, which help keep the community safe.
“The highways surrounding our community are 60 km/h and as with a lot of communities, a lot of passersby go way too fast,” said Cowan. “But another problem we have is our residents or people entering town off our main intersections, they’re going a lot faster than they should.”
Through the program seven radar signs will be posted throughout the community in key areas including a school zone, the rec centre, and the highways. Cowan noted that the area around the rec centre is famous for people speeding so the signs will bring awareness to locals and visitors.
She noted that there are a lot of young families and kids out so keeping the community safe is a top priority. “We just want to prevent anything before it happens.”
The radar signs have been shipped, and permits have been attained from the Ministry of Highways. The signs are scheduled to be installed by the fall before the frost hits.
