Law’s Automotive is a family-run business that has been part of the automotive field for nearly 30 years. And they do “everything”.
“We’re a licensed automotive shop that is capable of handling every make and model, and every repair that you can think of… besides paint or body work,” owner and foreman Dean Law states. “We strive every day to do the best we can. If we make a mistake, we fix it. That’s pretty much what’s made our business so successful- dependability, reliability, and honesty are what people want.”
Dean’s business partner is Kelley Law, who is also an owner as well as the service, parts, and front desk manager. Their specialties are electronics and computer analysis. These include computer control, computer communications and using Oscilloscopes. The future is electric, and Kelley and Dean are currently working towards becoming certified to handle full electric and hybrid vehicles.
“We’re bursting at the seams for work, but we need the workers.”
With a long list of clients waiting to be seen by the Law’s team, Kelley and Dean are looking to hire both Apprentice and Licensed Technicians.
“You start at the bottom, and you work your way up,” Dean says. “As a prospective Apprentice, you start as he did -- you’re doing the little jobs; the jobs no one wants to do: Lots of cleaning, putting away tools, emptying garbage, washing windows, floors, etc. This teaches apprentices to be spectacularly neat and organized. So when you start working on all these high-end, expensive vehicles, you now have the organizational skills and attention to detail needed to handle the job.”
Dean notes that, upon completion of the apprenticeship program, the sky’s the limit.
“You can become a licensed tech, and then a shop foreman,” Dean shares. “Or move higher up into the business- it depends on where you want to be. Work hard. Study. Take courses. If you want to advance your position from the mechanical side to the electrical side, you can.”
Level one apprenticeship tasks include basic fuel systems, management systems, suspension, charging, batteries, and brakes. This hands-on work will be closely monitored by a seasoned staff member.
“You won’t just be thrown onto a job and have no idea how to do it,” Kelley adds. “You’ll be working side by side with experienced journeymen who will guide you through the processes, so you’re not in over your head without knowing how to swim.”
Avery Weber has been an apprentice at Law’s for just over a year and is currently working towards getting his Red Seal Certificate.
“Working at Law’s has been good,” he shares. “I feel like I’m on a good team. I always feel like everyone has my back here.”
