With several construction projects underway in Weyburn, there is a reminder from City Hall: don’t remove construction signs. This comes after incidents where signage around construction sites has been tampered with.

“What had happened here last week, there were some people working signs that had gone missing from one of our construction zones,” explained Kevin Linnen, the Public Works Superintendent for the City of Weyburn. “We’ve noticed this has been happening in past years and we’re just really starting to get things really rolling here so we have to make sure that these signs stay in place.”

Linnen stressed that when these signs go missing, there is a cost to the public, as they need to be replaced. As well, there is a concern for public safety.

“What will happen is a very good chance of vehicle or property damage, personal injury as well, especially during the day when there’s a work zone and there’s contractors that are there in that location, on that work site,” Linnen stated.

Those who do tamper with the signs also run the risk of facing charges.

To report the removal of construction signs, residents are asked to call the City of Weyburn Public Works Department at 306-848-3290.
