The Weyburn Beavers returned to action after the WCBL All-Star Game Monday night with a doubleheader in Saskatoon. The Beavers would come out on the wrong side of the scoreboard in the opening game of the day falling 5-3, but bounced back in the second game with a 7-3 win.

In the first game, which got started just before 5:00 p.m., the Berries would open things up with a run in the first and added three more in the fourth to hold on for the win. Weyburn scored a run in the top of the 4th to tie the game up 1-1 and added a run in the 8th and 9th innings before the rally was cut short.

Niko Kekatos would go 2-for-4 at the plate in the game, extending his streak of reaching base by hit or walk to 14 games. Dallas Cummins, Ryan Dauphinee, Ryan Muizelaar, Halen Otte, Carter Schellsmidt, Nick Teng, and River Smith also collected hits, with Smith’s being a double. Dauphinee, Smith, and Brayden Mayencourt each drove in a run.

On the mound, Ian Heck got the start and went for two innings, allowing one earned run on four hits. Brett Paterson pitched five innings in relief, surrendering four earned runs while giving up seven hits. Mathieu Rocheleau finished the game off on the mound.

The second game of the night saw the Beavers start with three runs in the first inning, and they would pull away and hold on to get a 7-3 victory. The Beavers added two more runs in the 5th and two in the 6th. Saskatoon managed to get a run across the plate in the 1st, 4th, and 6th innings.

Kekatos had a double in the game to extend his streak to 15 games, while also driving in a run. Easton Mould had two RBI, as did Robert Gurney. Also getting RBIs in the win were Dauphinee and Otte. Dauphinee, Otte, and Gurney also had two hits in the game, with Gurney chipping in a double.

Angel Fragozo had the start on the mound, going five innings. He would surrender three earned runs on six hits while striking out five. Devin Costa pitched an inning, as did Joe Hart, with both holding the Berries bats at bay.

The Beavers will now prepare for the Okotoks Dawgs, who will be at Tom Laing for two games in two nights starting Tuesday. Weyburn will be looking for success against one of the top teams in the WCBL as they try to keep their chances at a playoff berth alive. The magic number for the Moose Jaw Miller Express to eliminate the Beavers is four, with 14 games remaining for the Beavers and 12 for Moose Jaw.
