The new officers for the Salvation Army in High River have arrived.

Married couple Captain Bill Mailman and Lieutenant Renee Mailman are now leading their congregation as well as the Thrift Store and the Food Bank.

The couple and their two children aged 9 and 11 actually arrived a few weeks ago from Swift Current, Saskatchewan, but they're no strangers to the area.

"We've spent a lot of time in the Calgary area before we became officers in the Salvation Army so coming back to High River and Southern Alberta just kind of feels like coming home. Being able to drive around and see the mountains every once in a while, just kind of gives that you know little tug at the heart," said Bill.

Bill says one of their priorities, which is happening right across the country, is keeping the shelves stocked for the food bank.

"Over the last couple of years, we've seen an increase in need just with inflation and things like that people are finding it harder to make ends meet. And when it comes to rent or food on the table people usually tend to go for rent and then look for ways to get food.  And that's what we're here for, to help people out."

The couple takes over from Brian and Edith Beveridge who retired last month.
