The Estevan Lions Club is gearing up for a significant fundraising effort to install permanent rink boards at the Rusty Duce Memorial Park. This project aims to enhance the area, allowing for ice in the winter and volleyball sand courts in the summer.
"This is the biggest fundraiser that we've tried to do since I've been a Lions member," said Nancy Brodeur, the treasurer of the Estevan Lions Club. "We do need $130,000 (approximately) to put up permanent rink boards at Rusty Duce and we're hoping to have ice in the winter and volleyball sand courts in the summer-time. So it'll be an all-year facility."
The Estevan Lions Club, which shares its 67-year history with the City of Estevan, has long been a pillar in the community, periodically offering free swims at the Estevan Leisure Centre and running the annual Lions Lottery. The lottery, selling 400 tickets at $100 each, helps fund community projects with $20,000 in prizes and the remainder reinvested locally.
The club’s next major event is the Taste of Summer Charity BBQ on July 24 at Murray GM from 11 AM to 1 PM, organized by Golden West Radio in support of the Estevan Lions Club. Attendees can enjoy a hot dog, cookies, and an ice-cold drink for $5.
