The August long weekend is going to be a busy one in Nanton.

For over 60 years, the Nanton Booster Club has organized the Nanton Parade.

This year, the parade will take place on Monday, August 5th.

"The Nanton Booster Club is a service group in Nanton," explains booster member Sean Christie. "It's a group of 25 guys. We just volunteer our time to help fundraise money for various events, and so on."

Christie says that anyone who wishes to be part of the parade just has to show up early on the day to get included.

"There's no special registration. If anyone wants to be in the parade, whether they got a float, or ride a bike, or ride a horse, or whatever. They just need to show up at J.T. Foster, between 8 and 9 o'clock for setup. And then there's some judging of the floats and cars and things like that. And then the parade starts at 10."

The starting point of the parade is at J.T. Foster High School.

From there, they head North on 24th Ave past the RCMP stations, until they hit a T-intersection.

"So, then turn East and go down the hill two blocks. Bottom of the hill you turn North again and go another three or four blocks. And then again you turn South and you end up on 22nd Avenue and we take that all the way back across town."

This will bring the parade in front of the Silver Willow Lodge, so all those who live there are able to watch from their front lawn.

Once they head all the way South to 25th Street, they head back North until they get to the A.B. Daley School.

"And then you Turn North again and go two blocks back and then you're back at J.T. Foster and in the schoolyard to finish."

Depending on the size of the parade, Christie says that it could take upwards of an hour to complete.

"Basically, it runs kind of through the whole central part of town on those four streets."

The Town will block the area off, so patrons can safely watch the parade.

After the parade is complete, Christie says there is going to be a barbecue for all of those who participated in the parade.

On top of the parade, the Nanton will be hosting their Nanton Round-Up days over the August Long Weekend, which will include fireworks, a pancake breakfast, and more.
