Due to the high temperatures Foothills County continues to see, the Town of Okotoks is making sure residents stay cool.

The Town is extending its cooling stations this week to help people escape the heat.

From July 23rd to July 28th, cooling stations are being set up at the Okotoks Recreation Centre, the Centennial Arena, the Okotoks Art Gallery, and the Okotoks Museum.

The cooling stations will be open during regular business hours, and the Town will have water bottles available at all stations.

On top of the cooling stations, the Okotoks Spray Park will have extended hours this week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day.

The Town is also reminding people to avoid working or doing intensive exercises in the heat or humidity and limit time outside. Residents are asked to take regular breaks, drink lots of water, maintain salt levels, and avoid high-protein foods.

It's also advised to never leave people or pets inside parked vehicles and to check on those who are alone and do not have air conditioning.

Those who make their way to the river to cool off are reminded to follow safety precautions, such as wearing a properly fitted life jacket or personal flotation device and using caution around riverbanks.

Swimming in storm ponds is still strictly prohibited.

If anyone begins to feel faint due to the heat, seek medical attention immediately.
