The Okotoks Dawgs took the first game on their road trip to Saskatchewan and the first meeting with the Weyburn Beavers in the 2024 WCBL season with an 8-5 score.

Blake Crippin started on the mound for Okotoks, pitching in four full innings and earning four K's in the process. Ryan McFarland, Cade Herrmann, Aaron Hammer, Easton Corey, and Ashton Luera came into the game as relievers.

Luera picked up the save after pitching in one and one-third innings and struck out three of the Beavers batters.

The Dawgs opened the scoring at the top of the first when Tucker Zdunich hit a solo home run for a 1-0 lead. Weyburn tied the game at one apiece at the bottom of the third.

Okotoks took the lead back at the top of the sixth with Connor Crowson getting across home plate on a wild pitch. The Beavers took their first lead of the game after getting to runners across home plate at the bottom of the sixth.

Dawson Santana tied the game up at the top of the seventh while Alejandro Cazorla was up at bat. Crowson then would hit a double with the bases loaded giving the Dawgs a 6-3 lead. Cazorla, Rickey Sanchez, and Zdunich would score the runs.

At the top of the eighth Caleb Lumbard added another run for Okotoks thanks to a Cazorla single to third base. The Beavers wouldn't roll over as they scored two runs at the bottom of the inning, cutting the Dawgs lead to two.

Okotoks got one back at the top of the ninth and got the game's final run from Zdunich after Crowson hit a single, picking up his fourth RBI of the night.

The Dawgs will face the Beavers tomorrow night in Weyburn for their second of back-to-back meetings and the final time the two face off during the 2024 WCBL regular season. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
