Excitement is starting to fill the air in Sedley as Prairie Playhouse Early Learning Center gears up to receive a donation from the inaugural Sedley Car Show and Summer Bash on Saturday, July 27th.

Kelsey Morrison, Prairie Playhouse's board chair, shared event details, highlighting the community's enthusiastic support.

"This is our largest event to date," Morrison emphasized, "and it's shaping up to be a spectacular day for families and car enthusiasts alike."

The festivities kick off at 11 a.m. with a car show and trade show that will run until 4 p.m. Attendees can expect many activities, including a bouncy castle, face painting, and various indoor and outdoor kids' activities. Live entertainment will keep spirits high throughout the day, complemented by a canteen and barbecue for visitors to enjoy."

Morrison noted the remarkable community effort that has propelled the child care centre project forward since the center was granted spaces in November 2023.

"It's been less than a year, but the community has rallied behind us," Morrison stated proudly. "We've worked tirelessly with a strong board of 12 members, organizing fundraisers and smaller events to support our vision."

Said vision extends beyond hosting events; Prairie Playhouse aims to address a critical need in Sedley.

"Sedley has never had a licensed child care center within a 145-kilometre radius along Highway 33. This center will provide essential childcare services, create local jobs, and attract young families to our community."

The board is focused on meeting its ambitious goal of opening the center this winter, well ahead of the 2026 deadline.

"The work doesn't stop with funding," Morrison emphasized. We're actively collaborating with contractors and builders and navigating the logistics of land acquisition."

As Sedley prepares for its first annual Car Show and Summer Bash, anticipation is high. Morrison is confident the event will be a success and mark a milestone in Sedley's community development.

Many in the Weyburn area, including Contessa Hill, the Administrator of the Sooline Cruisers, will attend this event.

Hill notes that she and other members will take their cars to the car show and enter them, which she says is a great way to support the Child Care Centre.

" A lot of us here at Sooline Cruisers just love to help out anybody, especially our locals. The city of Weyburn especially, but all the little surrounding areas as well. We just like to support them, whether it's a fundraiser or not."

Hill encourages everyone to support the center by attending the event, whether they have a car to show or not.

"This would be perfect to try to accumulate some cars and go out there and support them." She continues, "Hopefully, everybody's enjoying their summer, and make sure to head out to Sedley."
