The Blackfalds Pirates U11, tier-one, AA baseball team will be hosting a Provincials tournament this August long weekend.

The tournament which kicks off with the opening ceremonies tomorrow (August 2nd) at 5:30 pm, will run through the weekend with the finals on Sunday.

Mary Ann LaFrance, one of the organizers of the tournament, says its going to be a big weekend.

"There will be eight teams coming in total and they'll be from all over Alberta, from Calgary, Edmonton, and any other baseball team that has made it into tier one for AA at this at this category will be coming."

LaFrance also says history may be made for Blackfalds that weekend.

"Yeah. From what we have heard, this is the first time that a Blackfalds team has made Tier 1 provincials. So that's pretty exciting for our team. We have a great group of kids, great group of coaches and parents, so we've all been sticking together and it's been a fantastic year."

On top of great baseball action there is always a benefit to the local economy with so many players and families coming into the area.
