The Okotoks Oilers announced today that they have sent forward Hayden Fechner to Cowichan Valley Capitals for London Ontario's own Ethan DeKay.

Fechner played for the Oilers during the 2023-2024 season both in the AJHL and the BCHL, posting 24 points in 43 games. 11 of his points came from goals. In the playoffs, Fechner suited up for nine games playing primarily on a line with Dean Spak, and accumulated two points in the post-season.

The 18-year-old played two years before joining the Oilers in the AJHL with the Drayton Valley Thunder and put up 24 points in 75 games.

"Hayden provided offence and versatility in our forward group last season and we wish him all the best in his new opportunity," Oilers head coach and general manager Tyler Deis said in a release.

The Green and Gold picked up DeKay in the deal who played in 19 games last year with the Capitals with three points in 19 games and also competed with the Wisconsin Windigo in the NAHL. DeKay posted seven points in 14 games with the Windigo. During the 2022-2023 season, he split time with the Brooks Bandits and Cowichan Valley earning 12 points in 23 games.

"We are excited to add Ethan to our organization as we enter our first full BCHL season."

DeKay is committed to Michigan Tech with the NCAA.

The Okotoks Oilers and DeKay open up their first full season in the BCHL when they host the Brooks Bandits on September 20 at 7:05 p.m.
