The Chuckwagons are back and ready to fly down the track at the High River Ag grounds starting tonight.

The Battle of the Foothills has returned for the next four days with High River's Jason Glass looking in top form.

"Yeah, we start in heat 8. Four wagons, a little more excitement going on out there on the track. I expect we'll get great crowds with the weather we've been getting and put on a hell of a show" says Glass.

Yes, it's back to four wagons per heat as opposed to the three wagons per heat at the Calgary Stampede.  That means 36 outfits will be competing over the next four days making it even more challenging to win but also more exciting.

Glass says he's feeling good, and his team of horses are ready to roll after coming off winning the Calgary Stampede just two weeks ago.

"Very excited. Calgary was quite a special experience for my family and a lot of people that were following chuckwagon racing. I think it was a great Stampede for a lot of people. Now that that's over we've got to focus on High River. It's always good to be home in front of a bunch of friends and family."

Ranch Horse races are also slotted in for Thursday and Friday nights.

There's also something new this year to kick off the races, the Flying Cross Jockey Club will be making an appearance and racing tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The gates and beer gardens open at 5:00 p.m. with the chuckwagon races starting at 7:00 p.m. tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday night with a Sunday start time of 4:00 p.m. with gates opening at 2:00 p.m.

Saturday night will also feature an 18+ cabaret with El Mule starting immediately after the final heat of the night.

Sunday will also feature cowboy church and a pancake breakfast.

Ticket prices range from weekend passes to daily passes and you can find more information here.
