Some local firefighters are on their way to help with forest fires near Jasper.

Six members and two trucks from the Diamond Valley Fire Department headed up Wednesday night, according to their Facebook post.

High River's Fire Department also sent up some firefighters last night.

Fire Chief Cody Zebedee says they were able to help out and send up some support last night too.

"Last night our crew left town about 8 o'clock with one of our engines. We actually did it with three of our members and one firefighter from Foothills County to staff the engine. So, they arrived in the early morning hours of this morning to support the Town of Jasper."

Zebedee says they'll be gone for at least a week.

"Typically, when we deploy our crews, we plan for seven-day deployments. You know, it really depends on the situation there and how long they'll need a crew for. We might need to look at crew changes and things like that."

Overnight the situation has gotten worse with one of the two wildfires entering the township of Jasper causing widespread destruction.

An evacuation order was given on Monday night for not just Jasper National Park but also the town.
