The Saskota Baseball League will be holding its provincials this weekend at the Jack Harbourne Memorial Tournament, starting with games around the southeast on Friday.

The top four teams will be hosting their own games, with the games on Saturday and Sunday being hosted in Carnduff.

Vice President John Potapinski says that it'll be the first time Carnduff's hosted those.

"For the first time, it's going to be held in Carnduff. The last few years it's kind of been on a cycle, Carnduff put in a bid and they're the first-time host, and like, everyone's pretty excited about that. They usually put a good show on whether it's provincials or just league play, so I think they're pretty well prepared for it."

Potapinski says he expects some fierce competition this year with a few teams poised for the title.

"Anything can happen in a tournament-style playoff. So you know there are a few teams at the top. They're kind of the favorites, Carlyle's won a few years in a row and they're always a strong team, but like I said, when you get into a tournament playoff style, anything can happen. So really anyone has a shot."

The tournament will also have concessions along with a beer garden set up for the weekend.

Potapinski - who also plays for the Redvers A's - says he's excited to get onto the field.

Our team, Redvers, finished 7th and we're hoping we can kind of upset a couple of teams and have a shot at it, but yeah, it's always exciting to be around and enjoy a good weekend of baseball."

The top four teams will each host their own home game on Friday night at 6:30 PM:

  • Carlyle Cardinals host the southeast Diamondbacks
  • Carnduff Astros hosts Redvers A's
  • Oxbow Chiefs hosts Estevan Tap House Wolves
  • Weyburn Sun Devils hosts Arcola Threshers

On Saturday the games will start at 8 A.M. and carry on until Sunday afternoon.
