Team Canada at the upcoming IWWF World U17 Waterski Championships will have some Foothills representation.

Sofia Pelkey is among the 11 Canadian athletes set to compete, and on top of representing the Foothills, she'll also be representing her province as the only Albertan on the roster.

The event will be hosted by Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada at the Predator Bay Water Ski Club in Calgary from July 29th to August 4th.

Athletes from over 20 countries will be coming to compete in Slalom, Trick, Jump, and Overall events.

That includes 11 Canadians from six different provinces.

Pelkey will be on Canada's six-person team, competing in Slalom, Trick and Jump, and aiming for the Team Overall Title.

The 12-year-old Foothills resident, originally from Bragg Creek, has only been competing for two years and is already making waves.

She, along with her older sisters Megan and Sarah, won a combined nine gold medals at last year's Canadian Water Ski Championships.

Over the summer, she also swept the also swept the U17 Girls Slalom, Trick, Jump, and Overall categories at the Jr. Canadian Open.
