A total of five youths are facing charges related to a pair of early morning incidents in Winnipeg.

The Winnipeg Police Service says in a release that officers were called to a break-and-enter at a commercial property in the 1000 block of Ellice Avenue around 1 a.m. on Thursday, July 25.

Police say that the suspects smashed the front window to gain access, then damaged the inside of the store and stole merchandise before fleeing.

Just 30 minutes later, police received another report of a group of teens who set fire inside a gazebo at the rear of a property in the 1000 block of Sargent Avenue.

General Patrol Officers from the West District, with the assistance of the K9 Unit, located the youths in the 500 block of Spence Street and took them into custody.

Four male youths (ages 12, 13, and two 14-year-olds) face charges related to Commercial Break & Enter and Arson.

They were released on an Undertaking per the Criminal Code and turned over to an adult.

A 9-year-old male was referred to the Manitoba Turnabout program.
