A creative adventure awaits this Friday night.

Registration is still open for a much-needed fundraiser for the Weyburn Canoe and Kayak Club. They'll be hosting a Paddle Paint Night Fundraiser tomorrow evening at Nickle Lake Regional Park.

Paddle painting will be facilitated by Krystal Glowatski of CollabArtive Studios at 5:30 p.m., with the registrants then heading out onto the water afterward. The cost is $75 for non-members and $60 for members.

"In years past, we used to get around five staff wages covered off for the whole summer, so we could pay our staff, so now it's like, 'okay, there's nobody out after 7:00, close up if there are no rentals. So it is really hard because you want to keep the staff, you've hired them and they have all been fantastic, but it's really hard when you just don't have that extra money to get them to stay longer or keep your hours open longer," shared Club president Shauna Bauman.

The club has had some help from local businesses and organizations, such as Weyburn Pharmasave donating some toys.

"We didn't even ask and they just did it, so a huge thank you to them, and the Weyburn Oilwomen donated an iPad to us last year so that we can kind of go away from the paper," she explained. "Through the City of Weyburn and the R.M. of Weyburn, we were able to get Sask Lotteries grant funding, so we were able to buy some new equipment this year, which is fantastic because it does get old and worn out. So, yeah, without those types of things, we would be in a lot of trouble."

To register for tomorrow's event, message the club on Facebook or email weyburnckc@gmail.com. Bauman shared the plan for the evening:

"You can come down to the kayak club, which is located right along the water on the west side of the beach," Bauman invited. "Krystal with CollabArtive Studios has partnered up with us and she's going to be giving step-by-step instructions on how to paint your very own paddle to take home and display, whether at your camper or your cottage, wherever you want to place it."

"For about the first hour or so, you're going to be painting, and then once you're done painting, we will head out on the water. Krystal will stay behind and I do believe she's going to varnish or touch up our artwork."

"Those who participate get to go out in the water, and you can go for a kayak, a paddle board, we do have canoes, and we do have a brand new Super Stand Up paddle board, so it's said to accommodate up to four adults. There are going to be instructors there that will just kind of give you the rundown on any of the equipment that you do take out."

She said everything you'd need will be provided.

"So you do have your boats or whatever unit you take out, you have your paddle, you have your life jackets. They give you all the safety equipment that you need to go out. So you really just need to come out with a bottle of water."

"We're just looking for a lot of fun and just some collaboration with friends and some good time," she noted. "We do accept everybody, so you don't have to be a member to attend. We just want to get people out there. We did not receive any student grant funding this year, so this was just one way of coming up with some fundraising on our own and there seemed to be a lot of interest in it."

Bauman invited new members to join the Canoe and Kayak Club anytime. They open the first weekend of summer and close the first weekend of September.

"During the week, we do run a summer camp for kids. It's for ages 6 to 12, and the camp is from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. The kids there get to go out and experience all the equipment and just other activities that they can do around Nickle Lake, and then in the evenings, Monday through Friday, we're open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and then we're also open on the weekends from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
