The Okotoks Dawgs came up short with an 8-7 score against the Red Sox in Regina on Friday night.

It was the first time the Dawgs suffered a loss on their Saskatchewan road trip after winning the previous three games.

Brock Townsend started on the mound for the Dawgs in their second meeting with the Red Sox in as many days. Townsend pitched for five full innings and produced three strikeouts. Cam Stephens, Zane Morrison, Easton Corey, and Ashton Luera came into the game as relievers.

Ricky Sanchez got on the board first with a run at the top of the first inning, Regina responded with a run of their own to tie the game at the bottom of the inning.

Sanchez remained a problem for the Red Sox as he earned two RBIs at the top of the second after hitting a single to centre fields scoring both Caleb Lumbard and Spencer Sullivan in for runs. The Red Sox responded again but this time with four runs at the bottom of the second taking a two-run lead.

Caleb Lumbard got a run, a hit and a walk during his visit back to his hometown in Regina.

Tucker Zdunich crushed a solo home run at the top of the third inning to cut Regina's lead to just one. Zdunich followed up his home run with a double at the top of the fourth which would get Brendan Luther in for a run and tie the game up at 5-5.

Regina got a run at the bottom of the sixth and another run at the bottom of the eighth to put pressure on the Dawgs in the ninth to get at least two runs to tie it up. Dawgs did just that getting two runs across home plate with Nash Crowell and Dawson Santana getting across home plate.

Regina answered back with the winning run at the bottom of the ninth and split the season series with the Dawgs at 1-1.

Okotoks have no time to rest as they head to Saskatoon to take on the Berries for their first meeting of the 2024 WCBL season. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05 pm.
