"Mandan has really good competition. But, you know, [it] goes to show how good our competition is here in Estevan when we can go down there and compete against those guys," shared Turnbull.
Over the weekend, Aaron Turnbull and his team walked away from the Dacotah Speedway as champions after placing first in the Governor's Cup IMCA Modified Feature. "It's awesome. It's been a little while until now, but I think I've won it before in the modified and the late models. I had actually planned on taking both cars, but had an issue with my late model when we were getting it ready and wasn't able to fix it in time, so ended up just taking the modified. But, it went really well."
Turnbull noted that the win was well-earned and that the track was changing at every turn. "I was trying all kinds of different lines throughout the race and it was hard to tell what was better. Sometimes the top feels better, but it's a long way around. I could see some guys in the infield kind of give signals, so I was trying to do what they were saying and it seemed like it was making good time on the bottom at the end. Mother Nature helped us out a lot with the track conditions and gave us some good moisture in the track."
He shared that he splits his time between Estevan and Minot. He's also helping his kid out compete in slingshots racing throughout the season. He thanked his sponsors, his family and Brad Pierson of the Estevan Motor Speedway for assistance while in Mandan for the race.
Out of the 27 qualified racers, Turnbull was the only racer representing southeast Saskatchewan.
