It was a perfect Sunday to go for a drive to Bruno to check a wide assortment of cars at the 18th annual Show and Shine.
With plenty of sunshine, a little cloud cover and a nice breeze the event was once again a big hit.
Cars began lining up on the Bruno Sports Grounds throughout the morning, giving car enthusiasts plenty to look at throughout the day.
Different car clubs were well represented in Bruno, with exhibitors in town places like Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Rosthern, Warman, Martensville, Melville and others in attendance along with local vehicles from Humboldt and Bruno.
Tom Beck from Melfort along with his wife Cindy was in town with their 2003 50th Anniversary Corvette. Sunday was the first time he attended the car show in Bruno and noted that he had the date marked on the calendar for a long time.
“Actually, a year ago, we were driving back from Saskatoon, and we went down the highway by here, saw a big sign, car show, kind of said to one another, let’s go to that next year.”
James Dowdal from Saskatoon along with his wife Stella as a part of their local Classic Ford visited the car show in Bruno for the first time with his 1971 Mustang Convertible and was impressed with the event.
“I’ve never seen so many cars actually, this is the biggest one we’ve been at, except for the one downtown Saskatoon and another one we went to in the states, but there’s a lot of cars.”
Dowdal explained that he did a lot of work on his Mustang Convertible, including rebuilding the body and the motor, changing the car’s colour and is now happy with the state of the car now.
“I like cruising around it now, it’s a daily drive, I drive it every time I get the chance.”
Harlan Coakwell from Warman returned to Bruno with his 1968 Roadrunner and noted that he’s impressed with the event in Bruno.
“Very good turnout and they do a lot of cars here.”
Scott Klein from Drake returned to the car show after appearing in 2017 with a pair of trucks, a 1950 Chevy 1/2 ton and a 1950 GMC 1/2 ton. He wanted to make a return to Bruno after an absence.
“Haven’t been here in a few years, so I figured it was time.”
He noted that he had a lot of help restoring his trucks, Klein did the mechanical work while others completed the project.
Dave Schell from Allan came to the car show with his 1970 Chevelle for the first time. He said that he made some modifications to his car.
“I just like the classic style; I upgraded the motor and transmission to something a little bit more modern to put more miles on it.”
With the changes, Schell hopes to attend more car shows. He was impressed with the event in Bruno.
“We really like it, this is a nice show.”
The car show was not the only attraction of the day. The vintage tractor pulls were a big hit, with plenty of spectators taking in the action throughout the afternoon.
For the kids, there was plenty of entertainment, including free rides on Thomas the Train, a giant bouncy tent, face painting and a fishpond.
It’s safe to say, after leaving the show on Sunday, many car fans were already getting excited for the 19th edition of the Bruno Show and Shine next year on the final Sunday of July.
