An apartment building located at 509 12th Avenue in Estevan has been closed following an inspection by Estevan Fire Rescue (EFR).
The notice, dated July 24, 2024, cites Section 31(5) of The Fire Safety Act, which states that if a fire inspector finds a serious danger to people, property, or the environment during an inspection, they can:
- Take any actions needed to fix the problem or reduce the risk.
- Evacuate and close the building until the issue is resolved.
Although the exact nature of the dangers was not specified, EFR Chief Rick Davies said complaints about the state of the property had been received, prompting an inspection. It was then determined that due to various life and safety issues, no one would be allowed to reside in the building. Tenants of the building have been removed and relocated and the building has been secured until property owners can repair all deficiencies.
The building will remain closed until further notice.
