Estevan organizations are getting some extra money as Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan has dispersed $1.16 million in charitable gaming grants for the first quarter of 2024-25.

That goes towards a number of organizations, totaling 750 across the province and dozens in the southeast.

"These grants are one of the ways our government ensures that the proceeds from gaming go back to Saskatchewan communities," Minister Responsible for LGS Laura Ross said. "The grants support hundreds of charitable and nonprofit groups throughout Saskatchewan, including those focused on amateur sport, culture, the arts, animal rescue, service clubs, and much more."

The southeast area received a total of nearly $50,000, focusing on sports teams, municipal organizations, and other avenues.

In the Estevan area, the highest earner was Estevan Extreme Volleyball, bringing in $5,666.91 for the organization.

The grants are paid to groups who participate in licensed charitable gaming activities like bingos, raffles, and more. The grants are worth 25 per cent of net revenue raised by each charitable event up to a maximum of $100,000.

Estevan Extreme Volleyball President Troy Moroz says that money will be meeting some of the needs the club has.

"These funds will be used for their gym rentals and our tournament fees, and they also cost our tournament expenses and then we provide our players with equipment such as balls, nets, and practice balls."

Moroz says they're now preparing for their upcoming season with the summer camps being held in Estevan.
